Hey #ShiningStarrs! I hope that you are all handling yourselves with a little extra care. I don't know about you, but good grief January has felt like a year all on its own. And I know that many of us are fans or even friends of the late Kobe Bryant, so absorbing and still dealing with this huge loss of him, his daughter and the other families on his flight, is a lot.
But on a lighter and brighter note, I am very excited about some things that are coming up! Read on...
THURSDAY, JANUARY 30TH - Musical Performer for "To Karen with Love" Sketch Comedy Show
I'm so excited to perform a few numbers as the musical guest for the To Karen With Love show with a host of my friends from the sketch life. Come catch what I'm sure will be a hilarious show and see me do a lil something!
I had on my vision board last year that I wanted to do a musical tour. I had not booked one...until December 20th! So goal achieved. I am excited to play the principal role of "Mama" in the beautiful (and TRUE) story of Henry Box Brown, the brilliant slave who found true allies to help him mail himself to freedom in the mid 1800's. It is moving, fun and full of amazing artists and music! We have two shows in NYC next weekend and then we are off to Savannah, Georgia for four more shows!
When - Saturday, Feb 8th @ 3:30pm and Sunday, Feb 9th @ 7pm
So many of you have supported the series i'm in, James & Danielle. The series is one chapter in the multi-chapter series Dekalog, by Writer/Director Roger Omeus. I am so proud to announce that my crazy character Fiona Naire has been given her OWN CHAPTER in the series called #FILLY! A romantic comedy starring myself and the incredible Bobby Potts. We begin production shortly and I cannot wait! Based on the table read this weekend, it's gonna be a good one. Here's a peek at our promo teaser!
In the spirit of more work and blessings, I'm happy to also say that the series Unspoken that I am the lead in, is presently in post production and I begin shooting another dope digital series this month that I landed a lead role in too. I will be working post on a new PBS series part-time and am hoping to land a producing opportunity for a dope black-based travel show this Spring.
There are a series of other shows I am championing for as producer and/or writer and a slew of programs I am applying to as well. Talk about the #MambaMentality, I am going full throttle this year. I also plan to host a few workshops for the creative community. You see, while it's been a DIFFICULT start to the year for me, I claim that it's going to be an awesome 2020 for both Okema the actor, Okema the producer, Okema the writer and Okema the woman and my TRIBE!
Please let me know if you have anything dope going on or coming up as well. I am always here for my #ShiningStarrs and to support as I am able!
