Last week I had the pleasure of being interviewed by the amazing Kalandra of BluMedia6.com and I really was excited to be profiled amongst the amazing creatives that BluMedia 6 has chosen to spotlight. The questions were insightful and I did my best to be as transparent and vulnerable in my answers as I could. Below is a snippet from the interview and feel free to click at the bottom for the full read!
Much love to BluMedia6 for the love and for shining light on creatives as we push to tell our stories, our way!

This actor, writer, producer, teacher has her hands in just about everything imagineable and ready to deliver at all stops. Okema T. Moore is making her mark designed of her own rules. See my conversation with this super-talent. Be inspired!
Kalandra: As an African-American woman, what, if any, industry challenges have you’ve experienced and how do you work through them?
Okema: As a black woman from the "hood," of course I have dealt with the expected racism, sexism and classism. I have had people expect nothing and be astonished at my drive, my tenacity, my experience and my network. However, if I'm honest,my biggest challenge was ME. I grew up extremely insecure and unsure of myself, my viability and my talent. I was often ostracized, teased and so on. Over time I masked my fear and self-doubt by being over bearing and aggressive. I have always been passionate about my pursuits and I have always really loved creatives hard. But my excessive insecurities and being overwhelmed by naysayers made me intolerable when I got a tiny bit of power or come up. I became the very thing I hated. But I was surrounded by awesome people that believed in me and knew who I really was. They pulled me to the side and helped me see my flaws. And I made the adjustments. So now I have found balance within my passion and my leadership style. I understand that I need not feel insecure or compare myself with anyone. My journey is mine and I will live it as best I can, even in this ugly industry. And I vow I will always lift while I climb.
