Question....what do you get when you mix the hot-button topics of immigration, same-sex marriage and citizenship with chasing what we know as the "American Dream?" Keep reading for the answer. And for my conservatives, y'all read on too...*wink*
This week on #WebSeriesWednesday I want to share a new project. See, I am in love with digital series and the industry has fallen in love with them as well. So much so, that there are tons to compete with. A solid, unique story, a grounded but new voice and a good angle is what it takes to really push and propel your series to the front. So when I learned of this awesome story, I knew that I had to share with you all!
I first learned of VOWS via my Deka-Log co-star and creative friend Isabelle Pierre. A wonderful actress and human, she and I have had some great chats about the industry, beauty standards, coming from West Indian backgrounds, etc. And I am so proud of her for getting this project onto Seed & Spark and pushing to get it made. And as the product of immigrants on both sides of my family, I love it! I also know quite a few folks that have attempted this...lol As a proud Guyanese-Bajan, I love repping my lands and Isabelle is repping for the Haitian-American communities hard. Her passion can be felt in their pitch video (below) so tangibly.
VOWS... When Claire Joseph, first generation Haitian-American, and Selin Polat, a Turkish immigrant, decide to get green-card-married, they think their only concern will be paperwork and pictures. But when Claire’s clueless cousin, Wesley, shows up to their apartment on the same day an indulgent Immigration official is paying a home visit, they come to realize that marriage is hard work, especially when you’re FAKING it.
Directed by the award-winning Ginny Leise and written/produced by Isabelle and partner/co-star Nazli Sarpkaya, VOWS is presently fund raising for their pilot episode and I hope that you can give a little (or a lot) and share their awesome project on social as well.
At #MtEMedia we love to support and push the work of other creatives. We have featured several web series on the blog and if you would like to have us shout you out or interview you about your own web series or digital project, give us a shout at firstname.lastname@example.org!
