Desiring to be more, have more and do more as it relates to your dreams and desires is totally normal. And for creatives of any facet, it's as natural a feeling as taking a breath! However, what is it that you are doing each and every day to get yourself a step closer???
Faith without work is dead, and that is the case whether you are a Christian and believe in the bible or any other religion...or if you don't subscribe to any religion at all. You can have faith that your dreams will come true, but it's not going to land in your lap. We hear all of the time of "overnight successes," yet don't realize that overnight is often at least a decade that we just didn't hear about or know of.
So I say to you...what are you doing to get closer to your dreams? Are you continuing to study and grow in your knowledge of your craft and technique. Being a natural at something is dope, but when you add technique to talent you can't lose! Also, are you meeting people constantly? Are you positioning yourself at the events and locations to do that? And once you do meet them, then what? Are you following up with an email to invite them for breakfast or coffee or drinks to discuss how you two can collaborate or benefit one another? Are you investing in yourself? Do you have a social media presence that allows you to be spoken for when you are not there to do the talking? A website is perfect, especially if you do a multitude of things...each tab can act as the space for each item that covers your talents. But it should be representative of you and your brand. It should be mobile friendly, user friendly and always up-to-date. Your social media platforms should quickly depict who and what you are. If you have an Instagram account, I should know within a few pics/posts what you do and are into. Your bio should have a link to your website or IMDB page or something that can tell your tale. And if you are severely expressive and maybe not always PC about it, your Facebook privacy settings should be there as your filter for external eyes. These days folks are scrolling way into your timelines before they ever speak to you personally. BELIEVE IT!
Basically family, what are you doing to ensure your dreams become real? Make a plan for yourself; goal lists and plans range in time. One month, five months, one year, three years, five years, ten years! From there, begin to create to-do lists for the shorter term to give yourself the opportunity to see what is needed to be done and garner the satisfaction that is derived from checking off that list! Join meet-up groups and yahoo forums and Facebook pages that are in your area of interest to stay abreast of activities and functions that will give you access to those that you need to know or that need to know you. Link up with like-minded folks or colleagues and create think-tanks that allow you all to brainstorm together and find ways to excel and operate based more on sweat equity than fiscal equity if that is a limited resource for you. But whatever you do, always think of the next thing that will move you forward. Always be sure to nurture your relationships and stay in touch with folks that can be of help and use down the line. And also don't be stingy. Reaping and sewing is not just a biblical principal, it's a life principality. So if you want to get help, be open and willing to provide it as well!
MOOREthanEnuff will be organizing a think-tank for creatives in the new year, so if you wish to participate, feel free to email us at info@moorethanenuff with your name, contact information and what exactly it is that you do. We will also be looking into a few workshops and talks in the new year as well. Boxed Out Productions is working on curriculum for conferences and workshops too. So stay tuned for it all. In the interim, what are some things you do get a step closer to your greatness? Share them with us and share the post to inspire others. Let's all win, because it's definitely possible!
